Solvey

Via doNYC:

Solvey is a new project from Jessica Zambri, a Long Island native and longtime Manhattanite currently based in Brooklyn. Both Jessica’s home base and her musical career have always been fluid, from writing gospel music at age 7, to making house music in college, to collaborations with Hooray for Earth and Autre Ne Veut (her vocals were a staple of both bands’ most recent albums), to her last band, Zambri, the gorgeously weird electronic pop project Jessica helmed with her sister, Cristi Jo. Solvey doesn’t fit neatly into the pegs of any of the places she’s lived or bands she’s played with—the album “came out of nowhere,” according to Jessica, “like an alarm I knew I needed to respond to.” As with past efforts, the strength of her voice is the anchor for the songs, which are an amalgam of ethereal harmonies and bass guitar grit. Solvey is many things: a nickname coined by Jessica’s sister Catherine, the band’s name and the album title, in addition to the title of the first single. From nowhere and everywhere, a new word with a new meaning.
