Vinyl will outlive us all. Its hiss and crackle impermeable to old age or technological advance, listening to a record on vinyl is the only way you can truly say you’ve heard it.
For the next while, Room 212 at Ace Hotel New York is an honorary member of Vinyl Me, Please — the record-of-the-month club that believes the album is an art form, possessing the unique power to connect you with the present moment and the primordial drum beat all at the same time.
Each month, Room 212’ll receive the club’s featured vinyl and artwork to hang on its walls, and every lucky guest who sleeps beneath it will get the record to take home with them. We’ll be listening to the featured record in the lobby, too, every third Tuesday at 7:00 PM. Next up: Long Way Home.
There’s a dark, roiling hue to the pop sensibilities of Holly Låpsley Fletcher that hooks you when you first hear her debut album Long Way Home. While her vocal & melodic prowess have the right ingredients for the next big pop star, the minimalist electronic underpinnings push her left of center in just the right way, keeping the listener from ever being able to completely pin her down. At 19, Låpsley has produced an album far beyond her years, and one we’ll be quick to spin again and again.
