South African band BLK JKS (pronounced black jacks) was started by two childhood friends, Lindani Buthelezi and Mpumelelo Mcata, who had grown up on the same block in Johannesburg’s East Rand. The band has grown well beyond their local scene, however, garnering praise from The FADER, to The New York Times, from NPR to Stereogum, and everything in between.. Their unique sound has been described as having “smears of punk and metal [that] are interrupted by Jimi Hendrix-inspired guitar explosions. Then it’s all spun through layers of home-brewed dub and soul.”

The band comes to SOBs for the release of their debut album After Robots on the record label, Secretly Canadian. The set is highly anticipated by fans and critics alike.
