LYNCH THAM is pleased to present CON/TEXT, a group exhibition, on view from Wednesday, 8 January to Sunday, 16 February 2014.

Comprising of a selection of works from over four decades, CON/TEXT focuses on artists who have explored the dynamic interplay between two representational systems: text and imagery; chiefly in using text as image to create visual narratives of unconventional stance.

From Barbara Kruger incorporating pop culture images to illustrate provocative statements to Wosene Worke – an Ethiopian born artist who uses Amharic to make paintings and sculptures, this exhibition presents an overview of how artists from all over the world have appropriated and played with imagistic and textual conventions to construct new meanings, allowing us to engage in multiple modes of interpretation and understanding.

The exhibition also includes Joe Amrhein, Carl Andre, Xu Bing, Guglielmo Achille Cavellini, Lee Etheredge IV, Jacob El Hanani, Carlo Ferraris, Wenda Gu, Mona Hatoum, Barbara Kruger, Glenn Ligon, Shirin Neshat, William Pope. L, Robert Ryman, and Marina Temkina.
