About the Film:

Set in 1985’s middle-class suburbia, director Warren P. Sonoda’s COOPERS’ CAMERA follows a dysfunctional family’s Christmas descent into mayhem. Befuddled husband Gord Cooper (co-writer Jason Jones of THE DAILY SHOW) lets his shady neighbor Bill (Dave Foley of THE KIDS IN THE HALL) pay back a $2,000 debt with an “almost-new” video camera, which Gord excitedly gives to the whole fam’ as their holiday present. Gord’s wife Nancy (Samantha Bee, also of THE DAILY SHOW) is not impressed, as the two grand was to pay for the family’s dream vacation to Orlando—her favorite place in the whole world.

Youngest son and budding filmmaker Teddy Cooper (Dylan Everett), immediately commandeers the camera as his own, and sets off to capture the entire holiday through its VHS lens. Even though he’s only 11, Teddy uses his own form of wild cinema véritéto document the happenings of the crazy day, which includes the opening of the usual crappy presents, his older brother Marcus’ penchant for playing with ‘droids, his Aunt Joan’s new Nigerian mail-order boyfriend Okeke, the arrival of his estranged and obnoxious uncle, his 5-year-old cousin Dougie’s desire to punch people in the nuts, and his lovely teenage cousin Heather… whom Teddy pops a baby-boner for.
