Kings County Cinema Society presents a night of documentaries about artists. Brooklyn-based filmmaker D.W. Young will be with us to present his recent short Ami Underground, about NYC artist Ami Plasse and his distinctive subway sketches of unsuspecting New Yorkers. (2009, 17min). Followed by the recent colorful and celebratory portrait of Generation DIY artists, Beautiful Losers. Directors Aaron Rose and Joshua Leonard follow the lives and careers of a loose collective of influential artists who came of age in the post-Reagan era of skateboarding, graffiti, punk and indie rock subcultures, and have gone on to change the landscape of American art and design. Featuring Spike Jonze, Mike Mills, Shepard Fairey, Mark Gonzales, Harmony Korine and many more. (2008, 90min). Doors at 6pm with a BBQ in the courtyard, films at 8 in the gallery.
