Inwood Astronomy Program

Every Wednesday and Saturday during 2009 (weather permitting), Northern Manhattan Parks and the Inwood Astronomy Project will offer free star- and planet-gazing in Inwood Hill and Fort Tryon Parks. Telescopes will be available for your use or bring your own. For more information and weather updates, visit the Inwood Astronomy Project.

Fort Tryon programs will be offered on the third Wednesday of each month. All other programs will occur in Inwood Hill Park. These free, family-friendly events aim to spread the joys of the evening sky, and help you to learn more about the nature of our Solar System and current happenings in Astronomy.

Astronomy programs are clear-sky dependent. Call the Inwood Astronomy Project Hotline for updates at (917) 529-2359. Please check times because schedules will change as the season progresses and days get shorter.

Limited accessibility due to some lawn areas and steep paths.

Please note: TWO DIFFERENT INWOOD MEETING PLACES!

On Wednesdays, the group stargazes on the ballfields. On Saturdays, they climb the west overlook meadow in the forest above the ballfields.

•Wednesdays 8:00 p.m. – Meet at the ballfields closest to Seaman Avenue and Isham Street.
•Saturdays 7:30 p.m.- Meet at the park entrance at Payson and Beak Streets. Leaders wait about 15 minutes for people before walking up. Attention latecomers: They will mark the path with white chalk every 20-30 feet along the way so you can find the group.
