From KCCS:

As a tribute to the late great Gil Scott-Heron, KCCS is presenting BLACK WAX (Robert Mugge, US, 1983, 80min), a rare concert film featuring the legendary and recently departed singer/activist/poet. Recorded at the Black Wax in Washington D.C. in ‘82, Scott-Heron’s substantial grooves with the Midnight Band and nascent hip-hop act are complimented by a walking tour of the troubled capital; the crooner-comedian waxes poetic on inner-city malaise, crippling poverty, cultural arrogance and governmental neglect.
Always in performance mode, GSH smokes with wax figures, tears into President Reagan (“Ray Gun”), defines “bluesology,” tells it like it is. On stage, some of the man’s best-known hits are featured, including “Johannesburg,” “Winter in America,” and “Angel Dust.”
“It’s a massive irony for all the world to see: it’s the nation’s capital, it’s Washington DC.”

Seating is tight so arrive early.
