Wednesday May 19th: Da Skufz, Lach in ‘The Day I Went Insane’, Hamell on Trial, Toby Goodshank, Barry Bliss

30- Barry Bliss – Barry Bliss is a 44 year old singer/songwriter that lives in NYC. He has opened for such acts as Diane Cluck, Jeff Lewis and The Moldy Peaches, all at their request. He was also included on Rough Trade’s Antifolk Vol. 1 compilation CD.

-Toby Goodshank – The soft-spoken, enigmatic Goodshank made his high-profile debut playing acoustic guitar in The Moldy Peaches (Rough Trade Records, now featured on the Juno Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (Rhino Records, #1 album on the Billboard Top 200). Once that band began its indefinite hiatus, Goodshank kicked his solo career into overdrive, pumping out albums and touring Europe twice with the likes of Jeffrey Lewis (Rough Trade) and fellow Moldy Peach Kimya Dawson (K Records). In a relatively short amount of time, Toby Goodshank has become a crucial voice in the underground NYC music scene.

- Hamell on Trial – Hamell on Trial is a one-man punk band—and by punk we mean (mostly) loud, fast music informed by politics, passion, energy and intelligence, played by a guy with a sharp tongue and a wicked sense of humor. Signed to Ani Difranco’s Righteous Babe Records, Hamell is a tornado in concert and not to be missed.”Lenny Bruce meets the Ramones”- Austin Chronicle

- Lach in ‘The Day I Went Insane’ – Lach will be headlining the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in August and tonight will be previewing the one-man show he will be bringing there. “Think battered acoustic thrashings, think sarky, smart-mouthed wit and wisdom but most importantly think Lach. Lach is rarely less than a face-ache funny, beat-punk-unplugged joy, and likely to send you home with several favourite new songs”- The Guardian UK

-Da Skufz- Hillary Flowers fronts this group that seem like they came out of a 1920’s speakeasy drawn by Tex Avery. Da Skufz also feature Luigi Babe on guitar and Washboard Bob on, well, washboard; as well as a tag-along group of strippers, card players, saxophonists and other assorted riff-raff. Not to be missed! Da Skufz were the first act to be asked back to Lach Presents at The Marlin Room because they were just that good!
