The Arts, Culture and Fun Series at Manhattan Recreation is pleased to partner with ITVS Community Cinema from San Francisco and the Independent Lens series of PBS to bring powerful documentaries into our recreation centers. Please join us for a first look at these films before their national debut on PBS.

After each screening, audience members will have the opportunity to participate in facilitated discussions/conversations about each film with a special guest speaker.

Please join them for the second film in this series, DIRT! The Movie by Bill Benenson and Gene Rosow. The screening will be followed by a Q&A with directors Bill Benenson and Gene Rosow.

It’s under our feet and under our fingernails, but what is it? And how did it get there? Inspired by William Bryant Logan’s acclaimed book Dirt: The Ecstatic Skin of the Earth, find out how industrial farming, mining and urban development have led us toward cataclysmic droughts, starvation, floods and climate change. Dirt is a part of everything we eat, drink and breathe.
