Are you fan of Classical music? Well then you will love this Free event. Monet MGM is presenting a classical music concert at 92Y on May 18 at 8pm. Ticket requests can be sent to tickets@monetmgm.com by 2pm on May 18. Tickets can be picked up after 6pm on May 18 at the ticketing table (not box office) at 92Y.

They will be performing Dvorak Piano Quintet No. 2 in A Major and Brahms Piano Quintet in F Minor.

Artist bios:

Alissa Margulis
Born in Germany into a family of Russian musicians, Alissa Margulis made her first public appearance at the age of seven with the Budapest Soloists and has performed since then with numerous artists and orchestras internationally. She can be heard performing chamber music and sonatas on EMI Classics released with the Martha Argerich and Friends cycle. Ms. Margulis has also been presented in numerous productions for international radio stations and is also featured on a TV broadcast of Arte devoted to the Chamber Music Connects the World project.

Simon Gollo
Swiss-Venezuelan violinist, Simon Gollo, graduated with the degree of “virtuoso” while also winning 1st prize at the Music Conservatory of Geneva in 2002. Besides his achievements as a soloist and chamber musician, Simon Gollo is also the founder and artistic director of the “Festival y Academia del Nuevo Mundo” in Venezuela. This festival is regarded as one of the most important chamber music festivals in South America. Mr. Gollo is a renowned professor at the “Fundacin del Estado para el sistema de Orquestas Juveniles e Infantiles de Venezuela” and Mozarteum Music School in Caracas.

Yura Lee
Violinist/violist Yura Lee is the recipient of the prestigious 2007 Avery Fisher Career Grant. Recently, Ms. Lee was nominated and represented by Carnegie Hall for its ECHO (European Concert Hall Organization) series. Ms. Lee has won prizes in many international competitions, including first prize in the Leopold Mozart Competition, fourth prize in the Indianapolis Competition, third prize in the Hannover Competition, and 2nd prize in the Premio Paganini. As a chamber musician, Ms. Lee regularly takes part at the Marlboro Festival, Salzburg Festival, Verbier Festival, Caramoor Festival, Ravinia Festival, Kronberg Festival, Aspen Music Festival, among others. Ms. Lee is a member of the Chamber Music Society Two of Lincoln Center in New York City.

Jakob Koranyi
Winner of the 2nd Grand Prix and special prize for best interpretation of the Shostakovich Concerto No. 1 at the Rostropovich Competition in Paris in 2009, Jakob Koranyi has emerged as one of the most promising young Scandinavian artists of today. He has been awarded prizes and scholarships from numerous international festivals and foundations, such as the Prix d’Honneur and Ferminich Prize at the Verbier Festival in Switzerland . He has also won all the major Swedish competitions including the prestigious Swedish Soloist Prize in 2006 that launched his debut recording with works by Brahms, Britten, and Ligeti to great critical praise. After receiving his bachelor’s degree and soloist diploma from the Edsberg Institute of Music with Torleif Theden, he earned a post-graduate diploma from The Northern Royal College of Music with Ralph Kirshbaum and studied three years at the Konzertexamen program at the Musikhochschule Kln with Frans Helmerson. Mr. Jakob is a member of the Chamber Music Society Two of Lincoln Center in New York City.

Anna Khanina
As a Moscow native, Anna started her musical education at the age of five, and studied music in Moscow and Germany before coming to the U.S. to pursue a Piano Performance Diploma and later a Doctoral of Musical Arts degree. Anna Khanina is a laureate of many international competitions. Among them are the First Prize at the International Piano Competition “Classica Nova” in Hanover (1997), Second Prize at the “Ciutat de Carlet” International Competition in Spain (2003), Third Prize at “Nueva Acropolis” International Competition in Madrid (2003), Second Prize at the International Competition “Silvio Bengalli Piano Prize” in Val Tidone, Italy (2004). Ms. Khanina is also actively engaged in the field of chamber music and has worked with such renowned artists such as the Emerson Quartet and the Tokyo String Quartet.
