Things To Do During Hurricane Irene

I’m not sure if you guys know this but your pal here at LivingFreeNYC is from S. Florida. So as you can imagine I have been through plenty of Hurricanes and storms. So I thought I would make a compilation of fun things to do while you wait for the storm to blow over.

With Electricity:

-Obviously you want to charge up all of your laptops, Ipods, nooks, and tablets so that if the power goes out you will still have tons of entertainment. I highly recommend downloading tons of movies, songs, tv shows, and music to keep you occupied. Here is a list of some Hurricane movies to watch during the storm.

-(Ladies) Experiment and give yourself a homemade Mani/Pedi try out these cool colors to get you ready for the fall. Or try out some tribal prints with Shoes,Shirts, and Other Sh!t’s DIY Funky Tribal Nails how to.

-If you have a Spotify account you should definitely make a Hurricane Irene playlist. If you need some ideas check out the Hurricane Irene playlist our buddies at My Free Concert made. Or make your own with the list of songs Fucked in Park Slope compiled.

-Not sure which tv shows to download? Well use TV Line’s list of the best Hurricane themed tv show episodes as a reference.

-One of the best things we Floridians did during a Hurricane was have a Hurricane Party. We would board up the house, grab some snacks, and have the liquor flowing. Partying all night until the storm passed. So if you are having a Hurricane party try out these cocktail recipes from Socially Superlative to really get the party started.

-One of the worst things that I hate during a Hurricane is loosing power. So before that happens I try to take some of my perishable items in the fridge and make one large meal before the Hurricane hits. Drool over some of the delicious meals featured on HomeRun Ballerina’s food and lifestyle blog.

-When all else fails just watch some good old fashion tv. On Sunday check out this years madness at the 2011 VMA’s.

Without Electricity:

-Here are some recipes for when the electricity is out .

-Make sure you have some board games, and cards on hand for some old school fun.

-Catch up on some reading. If your bookshelf is anything like mine then you should have a ton of books that you have been meaning to take a gander at.

More than anything remember to be safe! This is not a little storm, so don’t attempt to go outside when the storm hits!!
