From Greater Astoria Historical Society:

Join Manhattan Borough Historian Michael Miscione for a screening of his award-winning documentary about the contentious creation of the five boroughs of New York City.

The video describes the fierce political battles that surrounded consolidation. It tells the story of the Brooklyn loyalists who struggled to maintain the independence of America’s third-largest city, and profiles two unlikely allies who fought for consolidation: Thomas “Easy Boss” Platt, and Andrew Haswell Green, the forgotten “Father of Greater New York.”

The City of Greater New York: The Story of Consolidation features interviews with filmmaker Ric Burns (creator of the PBS epic “New York, A Documentary Film”); historians David Hammack, Richard McCormick and John Manbeck; and descendants of Thomas Platt and Andrew Haswell Green.

After the screening, Join Michael in a Q&A session. Film Screening and discussion.

Special guest: The Sawlady: Natalia Paruz.
