Who says poetry is boring? Nuclear Poetry aims to challenge this. Join Nuclear Poetry for a special night of Poetry as they celebrate the 1st Anniversary of the event – again transforming the basement of Elmo Restaurant into a ‘literary bomb shelter’ for a night of spoken word and performance art. Creative writers of all sorts will read original works by candlelight, drinks will be served & a soundtrack specially chosen for the night will be played. Themes of past events will come full circle with a special performance of the piece that inspired the series: my audience-assisted multimedia piece, ANTIPANGAEA – which presents a rushing cycle of poetic forms to the soundtrack of archived news reels and experimental noise.

At 8pm, the doors will open and MUSE’s 2006 album “Black Holes & Revelations” will begin to play in reverse track order, ending with the stunning “Take A Bow,” which will serve as the overture to a very different opening of the show.

Visual artists will deck out the room with paintings and the night will be recorded in full for podcast on iTunes.

Get there early – it may get packed but they’ll have extra chairs on hand. Thanks to the people at Elmo there is NO COVER for the event, just buy a drink or two if you’re thirsty.

The night will end with an open mic so if you have poems burning a hole in your notebook, don’t be shy, bring them along – especially if you’ve never read in front of an audience before. All birds have to take that first jump to fly, right?

To hear the newborn podcast, check the podcast section at http://www.nuclearpoet…. It’s still in the ‘iTunes shuffle’ of being accepted by Apple, but should be live and searchable on iTunes any day now. Many thanks to Gary Van Voorhis for making this happen.

Readers for the night include a handful of writers who have performed at the event during the past year:

VICKI ANGEL, elegant woman–elegant writer–who pens epic poems about family history and unseen worlds
ALYSSA GOLDSTEIN, sultry opera singer with a penchance for poetry & breaking hearts; princess in another life.
CHRISTINE HAMM, sexy academic vixen, poet extraordinaire; a girl lives under her bed. Middle name = ‘Wit”
TERRA MOORE, Activist, Youth Advocate, Poetess; all around lover of life. “I write to breathe”
IBRAHIM SIDDIQ, budding performance poet & hopeful thinker, leader of the new ‘Freedumb Movement’
KOEN VERMESEN, writer from Belgium’s Toneelhuis Theatre Company in Brussells; on holiday in the big, bad city
AARON WIMMER, poet/performance artist interested in worldly events, new poetic forms, exploring the unknown and doing daft things with electronic devices.

Please join them. Bring your creativity & love for writing and let’s make some magic.
