Come out for a special night of Nuclear Poetry as they kick off the first in a series of four 2010/2011 shows about the elements: FIRE, Water, Air & Earth.

Inspired by the recent eruptions of the Eyjafjallajökul volcano in Iceland and the staggering number of earthquakes across the globe this year, VOICES FROM THE UNDERGROUND will open with an explosive multimedia presentation of poetry, music and video projection celebrating Mother Nature’s intense beauty and the ever-growing standoff of technology vs. nature: Planes and ash clouds; gulf waters and oil.

Creative writers of all sorts will then read original works by candlelight, Singer-songwriter Blake Drummond will play a few songs, drinks will be served and the room will be decorated with photographs of nature by photographer JenGer Love.

Doors at 8, show at 8:30. No cover.

They will be recording the event for podcast on iTunes and the night will end with an open mic, so if you have poems burning holes in your notebook, don’t be shy – bring them along. Especially if you’ve never read in front of an audience before.

Their troupe of Nuclear Poets for the night:

– ROCK WILK is an actor and playwright of the upcoming solo show Broke Wide Open @ PS122, an accomplished poet (2009 Nuyorican semifinalist) & socially and politically charged vocalist who creates all of his art while riding the subways of NYC.

– TAI ALLEN is dangerous–a quadruple threat if ever there was one: poet, recording artist, composer and publisher hailing from the wilds of Brooklyn. Creative Director/Producer of Vice Lounge.

– JAHNILLI AKBAR, regular Nuyorican slam poet and member of the “Ain’t Never Scared” poetry team. Originally from MIssissippi, now in his second year living in NYC.

– ALYSSA GOLDSTEIN, recent New School graduate; sultry opera singer and poet with a penchance for breaking hearts and binding beautiful books.

– BLAKE DRUMMOND, up and coming singer/songwriter who plays a mean guitar; member of the band Wavebrain.

– AARON WIMMER, poet/performance & new media artist interested in world events, the music of magma, mortality and doing daft things with electronic devices.

+ Alexandra Zimmermann & Brendan Wolff.
