Leave your baggage at home and bring a picnic blanket out to Flushing Meadows Corona Park for Target Passport Fridays 2010, the 6th season of the Queens Museum of Art’s annual outdoor summer festival of international music, dance and film. Each evening begins with live dance and music performances followed by the feature film screening after sunset.

This week’s journey takes us to India!

Dance and Musical performances start at 6:30 and the film screening starts at 8:30

Dance:
Reena Shah, famous for her bhangra classes before DJ Rekha’s Basement Bhangra nights, will show you the moves you need to shake it like a desi to the band that will follow.

Music:
Led by drummer Sunny Jain, Red Baraat is the first and only dhol ‘n’ brass band of its kind in the States, melding the infectious North Indian rhythm Bhangra with brass funk and expressing the human spirit through improvisation and a powerful live sound.

Film:
Bombay Summer (Jospeh Mathew, India, 2008, Hindi & English with English ST)
Explores the fleeting and delicate friendship between three young people and its eventual disintegration in the face of betrayal and personal loss.
